Narrative:
This author installed cerminil rings to fit cerminil cylinder assemblies. After 2 hours piston rings removed metal from cylinder walls and contaminated engine. Discussed this problem with supplier and he is looking into vendor problem, with possible mis-identification of part number. This mis-identification caused incorrect ring material against cylinder wall. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that what was labeled as cerminil piston rings were installed in cerminil cylinders and after two hours of running the engine exhibited metal transfer from the cylinder walls. The reporter said extensive damage was done to the engine and had to be torn down completely and the case split. The reporter stated the vendor of the piston rings suspects the rings were mislabeled and is conducting an investigation.

Title: A CESSNA 150 WITH A LYCOMING 0320 ENGINE HAD THE WRONG TYPE PISTON RINGS INSTALLED CAUSING EXTENSIVE ENGINE DAMAGE DUE TO VENDOR PART MISLABELING.
Narrative: THIS AUTHOR INSTALLED CERMINIL RINGS TO FIT CERMINIL CYLINDER ASSEMBLIES. AFTER 2 HRS PISTON RINGS REMOVED METAL FROM CYLINDER WALLS AND CONTAMINATED ENGINE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT WHAT WAS LABELED AS CERMINIL PISTON RINGS WERE INSTALLED IN CERMINIL CYLINDERS AND AFTER TWO HOURS OF RUNNING THE ENGINE EXHIBITED METAL TRANSFER FROM THE CYLINDER WALLS. THE RPTR SAID EXTENSIVE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE ENGINE AND HAD TO BE TORN DOWN COMPLETELY AND THE CASE SPLIT. THE RPTR STATED THE VENDOR OF THE PISTON RINGS SUSPECTS THE RINGS WERE MISLABELED AND IS CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION.
