Narrative:
Approach to runway 36L dfw. The aircraft prior to our approach reported no problems. At approximately 2500 ft afl we encountered severe windshear with all appropriate aircraft warnings. We executed missed approach and requested climb to 3000 ft with right turn to 090 degrees to avoid WX and continued turbulence, severe. Tower, then approach, then departure frequencys all busy with missed approachs, arrs, etc. Still in moderate to severe turbulence on climb out, we requested higher altitude and deviations for WX and given heading and 5000 ft. We maintained assigned instructions as we could, deviated approximately 400 ft above or below due to turbulence and windshear. Finally found clear air, flew assigned headings and altitudes, held for 10 mins, then diverted to austin without further incident. Returned to dfw after refueling and dfw WX cleared. During windshear recovery and missed approach I exercised captain's authority/authorized to maintain safe control of aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR FK10 FLC ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB ON APCH RESULTING IN A GAR AND DIVERSION TO AN ALTERNATE. THE RPT RELATES THE DIFFICULTY THEY HAD WITH CTLING THE ACFT DURING THESE MANEUVERS IN SEVERE TURB.
Narrative: APCH TO RWY 36L DFW. THE ACFT PRIOR TO OUR APCH RPTED NO PROBS. AT APPROX 2500 FT AFL WE ENCOUNTERED SEVERE WINDSHEAR WITH ALL APPROPRIATE ACFT WARNINGS. WE EXECUTED MISSED APCH AND REQUESTED CLB TO 3000 FT WITH R TURN TO 090 DEGS TO AVOID WX AND CONTINUED TURB, SEVERE. TWR, THEN APCH, THEN DEP FREQS ALL BUSY WITH MISSED APCHS, ARRS, ETC. STILL IN MODERATE TO SEVERE TURB ON CLBOUT, WE REQUESTED HIGHER ALT AND DEVS FOR WX AND GIVEN HEADING AND 5000 FT. WE MAINTAINED ASSIGNED INSTRUCTIONS AS WE COULD, DEVIATED APPROX 400 FT ABOVE OR BELOW DUE TO TURB AND WINDSHEAR. FINALLY FOUND CLR AIR, FLEW ASSIGNED HEADINGS AND ALTS, HELD FOR 10 MINS, THEN DIVERTED TO AUSTIN WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. RETURNED TO DFW AFTER REFUELING AND DFW WX CLRED. DURING WINDSHEAR RECOVERY AND MISSED APCH I EXERCISED CAPT'S AUTH TO MAINTAIN SAFE CTL OF ACFT.
