Narrative:
New assumed temperature reduced EPR takeoffs are being operated on the B727. On this occurrence, the so handed up the takeoff data for a reduced EPR (assumed temperature 35) takeoff. We were at ord runway 32, taxiway T10. The automated weight and balance system was checked by the first officer and concurred with the data card. What was incorrect was that the so had inadvertently taken EPR settings for 'assumed temperature 50' instead of 'assumed temperature 35.' takeoff continued normally, though the crew noticed that takeoff roll was longer than usual. The crew discussed this and found the error. The problem is there are several different EPR settings for the various 'assumed temperature takeoffs.' while the weights and performance are crosschecked on automated weight and balance system by both the so and first officer, there is no procedure to xchk the actual EPR settings and an error could easily occur. Supplemental information from acn 401180: takeoff was otherwise uneventful. Crew submitted 3 suggestions to carrier to prevent this type of occurrence from happening again.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SO OF A B727 USED THE WRONG CHART TO COMPUTE THE TKOF PWR EPR RESULTING IN LESS PWR AND MORE RWY LENGTH USED FOR TKOF. SINCE THE COMPANY HAS A NEW, REDUCED ENG TEMP CRITERIA TO USE FOR COMPUTING THE EPR'S FOR TKOF, THE SO HAS RECOMMENDED TO HIS COMPANY 3 DIFFERENT WAYS TO HELP ELIMINATE THIS PROB IN THE FUTURE.
Narrative: NEW ASSUMED TEMP REDUCED EPR TKOFS ARE BEING OPERATED ON THE B727. ON THIS OCCURRENCE, THE SO HANDED UP THE TKOF DATA FOR A REDUCED EPR (ASSUMED TEMP 35) TKOF. WE WERE AT ORD RWY 32, TXWY T10. THE AUTOMATED WT AND BAL SYS WAS CHKED BY THE FO AND CONCURRED WITH THE DATA CARD. WHAT WAS INCORRECT WAS THAT THE SO HAD INADVERTENTLY TAKEN EPR SETTINGS FOR 'ASSUMED TEMP 50' INSTEAD OF 'ASSUMED TEMP 35.' TKOF CONTINUED NORMALLY, THOUGH THE CREW NOTICED THAT TKOF ROLL WAS LONGER THAN USUAL. THE CREW DISCUSSED THIS AND FOUND THE ERROR. THE PROB IS THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT EPR SETTINGS FOR THE VARIOUS 'ASSUMED TEMP TKOFS.' WHILE THE WTS AND PERFORMANCE ARE XCHKED ON AUTOMATED WT AND BAL SYS BY BOTH THE SO AND FO, THERE IS NO PROC TO XCHK THE ACTUAL EPR SETTINGS AND AN ERROR COULD EASILY OCCUR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 401180: TKOF WAS OTHERWISE UNEVENTFUL. CREW SUBMITTED 3 SUGGESTIONS TO CARRIER TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF OCCURRENCE FROM HAPPENING AGAIN.
