Narrative:
I was talking to hulman approach and was told to start my base leg to runway 23 and contact tower on 118.30. When I switched frequency, I was unable to contact tower and then tried to go back to approach for a landing clearance. I was inbound for a touch and go. By this time, I was on short final and still unable to reach anyone. I did not see any light gun signals, so I choose to go around and exit their airspace. I had been monitoring approach before I entered their airspace and I knew they were not busy. I continued to return to my home base (3i3) and land. When I landed, I called the tower and told them I lost my radios and they said that light gun signals were given, but I did not see them and thought the best solution was to exit their airspace.

Title: PLT INSTRUCTOR OF A PA28-200 LOST COMS WITH ATC AFTER APCH CTL INSTRUCTED HIM TO CONTACT TWR. SINCE HE HAD NOT HEARD ANYONE BY SHORT FINAL, AND DID NOT OBSERVE LIGHT SIGNALS FROM THE TWR, HE RETURNED TO HIS NON TWR HOME BASE AND CALLED THE TWR VIA PHONE. TWR CTLR ADVISED THAT HE HAD BEEN GIVEN LIGHT SIGNALS FOR LNDG, BUT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THEM.
