Narrative:
Dfw ground. Location: departure end of runway 17R. On taxi out, captain asked first officer to inform ground control that we had not received our closeout. Ground responded and asked us to taxi via taxiway K, taxiway ef to runway 17R. At the approach end of the runway, I noticed another air carrier's S80 coming fast, paralleling our course and then turned into us. I immediately told the captain to look out for the S80 on our left. After an abrupt stop we continued. It was obvious that east ground and west ground had not coordination as to who was to give way at the departure end of the runway. Further, it was obvious that the other aircraft crew had their heads inside the airplane. There is no doubt that they would have taxied into our aircraft had we not flashed our lights even after stopping.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B767-200 AND AN S80 ALMOST COLLIDE AS THEY ARE TAXIING TO THE SAME RWY IN A NIGHT OP AT DFW.
Narrative: DFW GND. LOCATION: DEP END OF RWY 17R. ON TAXI OUT, CAPT ASKED FO TO INFORM GND CTL THAT WE HAD NOT RECEIVED OUR CLOSEOUT. GND RESPONDED AND ASKED US TO TAXI VIA TXWY K, TXWY EF TO RWY 17R. AT THE APCH END OF THE RWY, I NOTICED ANOTHER ACR'S S80 COMING FAST, PARALLELING OUR COURSE AND THEN TURNED INTO US. I IMMEDIATELY TOLD THE CAPT TO LOOK OUT FOR THE S80 ON OUR L. AFTER AN ABRUPT STOP WE CONTINUED. IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT E GND AND W GND HAD NOT COORD AS TO WHO WAS TO GIVE WAY AT THE DEP END OF THE RWY. FURTHER, IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE OTHER ACFT CREW HAD THEIR HEADS INSIDE THE AIRPLANE. THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TAXIED INTO OUR ACFT HAD WE NOT FLASHED OUR LIGHTS EVEN AFTER STOPPING.
