Narrative:
On may/fri/98, we were in the climb portion of a trip from pwk to bct. The #1 engine itt gauge began a gradual climb to well beyond redline. At this point, the crew elected to proceed with a precautionary shutdown of the #1 engine. An emergency was declared and we were given priority handling back to pwk for an uneventful landing.

Narrative: ON MAY/FRI/98, WE WERE IN THE CLB PORTION OF A TRIP FROM PWK TO BCT. THE #1 ENG ITT GAUGE BEGAN A GRADUAL CLB TO WELL BEYOND REDLINE. AT THIS POINT, THE CREW ELECTED TO PROCEED WITH A PRECAUTIONARY SHUTDOWN OF THE #1 ENG. AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND WE WERE GIVEN PRIORITY HANDLING BACK TO PWK FOR AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
