Narrative:
Approach control was advised that we were unable to hold short. Lahso operations were in effect. We were vectored for an approach to runway 4R. We were then cleared to intercept the localizer, slow to 170 KTS and call the tower. At that time we were more than 2 dots above the GS and realized that we were less than 3 mi behind the preceding aircraft. Slowing to 170 KTS and then to final approach speed immediately put us 2 mi behind the aircraft ahead. It was fortunate that the B727 slows down very well and we were able to land uneventfully. This is the second time I have been set up by ATC after refusing a lahso and about the sixth punitive action taken with us under same circumstances. Very, very unsafe ATC.

Title: RPTED SIT IN WHICH THE RPTR'S ACFT AT A FASTER SPD WAS SPACED TOO CLOSELY BEHIND A PRECEDING ACFT.
Narrative: APCH CTL WAS ADVISED THAT WE WERE UNABLE TO HOLD SHORT. LAHSO OPS WERE IN EFFECT. WE WERE VECTORED FOR AN APCH TO RWY 4R. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO INTERCEPT THE LOC, SLOW TO 170 KTS AND CALL THE TWR. AT THAT TIME WE WERE MORE THAN 2 DOTS ABOVE THE GS AND REALIZED THAT WE WERE LESS THAN 3 MI BEHIND THE PRECEDING ACFT. SLOWING TO 170 KTS AND THEN TO FINAL APCH SPD IMMEDIATELY PUT US 2 MI BEHIND THE ACFT AHEAD.
