Narrative:
Upon installation of the #2 engine oil servicing cap, I inadvertently cut the servicing cap o-ring, causing an engine oil leakage problem. An air turnback was accomplished by the flight crew. A ZZZ line mechanic on duty discovered the problem and corrected it. In order to prevent this from occurring in the future, more care will be exercised when installing the oil fill cap.

Title: A DC9-10 RETURNED TO THE FIELD DUE TO LOSS OF #2 ENG OIL CAUSED BY AN OIL FILLER CAP SEAL CUT DURING INSTALLATION.
Narrative: UPON INSTALLATION OF THE #2 ENG OIL SVCING CAP, I INADVERTENTLY CUT THE SVCING CAP O-RING, CAUSING AN ENG OIL LEAKAGE PROB. AN AIR TURNBACK WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY THE FLC. A ZZZ LINE MECH ON DUTY DISCOVERED THE PROB AND CORRECTED IT. IN ORDER TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING IN THE FUTURE, MORE CARE WILL BE EXERCISED WHEN INSTALLING THE OIL FILL CAP.
