Narrative:

Departed dtw climbing on a route vwv direct rod. Departure altimeter setting of 29.42. Climbing through FL180, I reset setting to 29.92 but did not xchk that first officer had reset his altimeter. ZOB questioned our altitude which indicated we were at FL215, 500 ft high. We corrected with no known conflict. During this time the first officer was distraction with a request to confirm our passenger load with the senior flight attendant. With first officer utilizing autoplt #2, an aural altitude alert did not sound, alerting us of a deviation greater than 300 ft.

Title: AN FK100 FLC OVERSHOT THEIR ALT IN CLB WHEN THE FO FAILED TO RESET HIS ALTIMETER FROM 29 PT 42 TO 29 PT 92. THE FO HAD BEEN DISTR BY THE FLT ATTENDANT ASKING FOR A CONFIRMATION ON THE PAX COUNT. ATC STEPPED IN TO CORRECT THE ALTDEV.
