Narrative:
Landing VFR bmi runway 2. Wind 290 degrees 8 KTS. Runways 29/11 closed for repairs. Tailwheel 'locked up' on touchdown associated with marked vibration and temporary loss of directional control. No damage or injury. Tire pressure slightly low (20 versus 25). After inspection and flight: tailwheel appears normal.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PVT PLT OF A TAILWHEEL GREAT LAKES 2T-A2 BI-PLANE LOST DIRECTIONAL CTL MOMENTARILY ON TOUCHDOWN. BELIEVED TO BE THE TAILWHEEL LOCKING SINCE IT CAUSED A VIBRATION. HOWEVER, SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION, AFTER FLT, INDICATED THAT TAILWHEEL WAS NORMAL, BUT SLIGHTLY LOW ON AIR PRESSURE. A XWIND LNDG, HOWEVER, WAS NECESSARY DUE TO THE RWY INTO THE WIND WAS CLOSED.
