Narrative:

I was training at arrival radar south position at pit. With numerous aircraft on vectors the two in question had been turned off the final approach course to make room for a B757 that should have landed on another runway. After realizing this would not work, the instructor noticed the two in question closing and took immediate action to ensure separation. Supplemental information from acn 406358: I let trainee pick the slot on final for the B757 (with the concurrence of the other arrival controller, who was working the B757). In retrospect, I would tell the other arrival controller to follow a different airplane.
