Narrative:
During approach to airport, cleared visual approach to runway 33L (parallel approachs in progress with runway 33R). We were cleared for visual approach and told to contact tower. After first call to tower (no contact), we saw aircraft crossing our flight path right to left and discontinued our approach to runway 33L to go behind crossing traffic. We were not told of aircraft on parallel approach by approach control and after 2 more calls to bwi tower to no avail, we turned in to make approach to runway 28 and were finally cleared to land. We called FAA tower to see what went wrong and were told parallel approachs were in effect.

Title: ACFT X FLC CLAIM BWI APCH CTLR CLRED THEM FOR A VISUAL APCH AND RELEASED THEM TO THE TWR WITHOUT ADVISING THAT ACFT Y WOULD CROSS IN FRONT OF THEM FOR THE SAME RWY.
Narrative: DURING APCH TO ARPT, CLRED VISUAL APCH TO RWY 33L (PARALLEL APCHS IN PROGRESS WITH RWY 33R). WE WERE CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH AND TOLD TO CONTACT TWR. AFTER FIRST CALL TO TWR (NO CONTACT), WE SAW ACFT XING OUR FLT PATH R TO L AND DISCONTINUED OUR APCH TO RWY 33L TO GO BEHIND XING TFC. WE WERE NOT TOLD OF ACFT ON PARALLEL APCH BY APCH CTL AND AFTER 2 MORE CALLS TO BWI TWR TO NO AVAIL, WE TURNED IN TO MAKE APCH TO RWY 28 AND WERE FINALLY CLRED TO LAND. WE CALLED FAA TWR TO SEE WHAT WENT WRONG AND WERE TOLD PARALLEL APCHS WERE IN EFFECT.
