Narrative:
Approaching salt lake #2 airport from the south in a C414, we could hear traffic in the airport pattern. I entered an extended left base for runway 34. I called position and extended all landing lights. I called position twice more on final. I could see smaller and slower traffic on left base and downwind. I slowed down all that I could to allow the slower tighter left base traffic turning final, so we could follow him in. Then there appeared a small aeronautical coupe which turned final right in front of us, which I had not previously seen. It seemed obvious that they were aware of us. It was as though they were playing a game of 'chase' or 'chicken.' I yielded and made a go around. Shortly thereafter I was scolded over the radio by unknown traffic for my pattern. I took it graciously and landed safely. Within 5 or 6 mins there was more radio traffic scolding a small single engine pilot for doing too large of a pattern. There seemed to be a group of local planes doing tight traffic patterns involving touch and goes. There seemed to be an attitude or ego problem with them claiming their rights and right of way, while doing small tight traffic patterns. These patterns were too small and uncomfortable for me in a cessna 400 series. Someone in the group really did not want to extend for me or anyone else.
