Narrative:
Msy tower cleared us for takeoff runway 19 (air carrier #1). At rotation we were hit by jet blast from an air carrier #2 B757 in position on runway 28. Extreme lateral and longitudinal displacement, 20-30 degrees roll and 50 ft lateral displacement from runway centerline. Extremely hazardous situation. Msy tower should never clear an aircraft for takeoff on runway 28 with an aircraft rolling on runway 19. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: pilot on flight departing runway 19 at msy called and stated that on arrival at destination he called the tower supervisor at msy and complained about getting severe jet blast from the traffic departing runway 28. He said he was about 10-15 ft in the air when the turbulence hit and that they had almost lost it. He also stated the tower supervisor told him that the tower has a local procedure prohibiting simultaneous departures on the 2 runways and that a mistake had been made. The pilot said he had filed a report on the incident with his company and e- mailed a safety report to his union representative. Type aircraft B737.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR DEPARTING S IS HIT BY JET BLAST FROM A B757 APPARENTLY DEPARTING W ON A CROSS RWY NOT CONNECTED.
Narrative: MSY TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF RWY 19 (ACR #1). AT ROTATION WE WERE HIT BY JET BLAST FROM AN ACR #2 B757 IN POS ON RWY 28. EXTREME LATERAL AND LONGITUDINAL DISPLACEMENT, 20-30 DEGS ROLL AND 50 FT LATERAL DISPLACEMENT FROM RWY CTRLINE. EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS SIT. MSY TWR SHOULD NEVER CLR AN ACFT FOR TKOF ON RWY 28 WITH AN ACFT ROLLING ON RWY 19. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: PLT ON FLT DEPARTING RWY 19 AT MSY CALLED AND STATED THAT ON ARR AT DEST HE CALLED THE TWR SUPVR AT MSY AND COMPLAINED ABOUT GETTING SEVERE JET BLAST FROM THE TFC DEPARTING RWY 28. HE SAID HE WAS ABOUT 10-15 FT IN THE AIR WHEN THE TURB HIT AND THAT THEY HAD ALMOST LOST IT. HE ALSO STATED THE TWR SUPVR TOLD HIM THAT THE TWR HAS A LCL PROC PROHIBITING SIMULTANEOUS DEPS ON THE 2 RWYS AND THAT A MISTAKE HAD BEEN MADE. THE PLT SAID HE HAD FILED A RPT ON THE INCIDENT WITH HIS COMPANY AND E- MAILED A SAFETY RPT TO HIS UNION REPRESENTATIVE. TYPE ACFT B737.
