Narrative:

Ord approach indicated we (cheyenne) would be given ILS/visual approach to runway 27L. This was said upon initial communication with ord approach. Vectors were given and a final turn onto final course for ILS. As turn was being made, approach control said we were cleared for ILS runway 22L. Our cheyenne was flying a coupled approach to runway 27L. By the time we reported we had to take evasive action from altitude and course because of a conflict with the other aircraft. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter was captain, PNF, and stated he flies into ord 3 or 4 times each month. Said he and his first officer were taken by surprise when turned for different procedure than expected. The reporter said they overshot the approach and a 40-50 degree turn was required back to the final. The runway was in sight and a clearance for visual approach was issued. Discussed with supervisor after landing and was told no loss of separation occurred even though the airliner turning in for the other runway advised on the radio he had received a TCASII TA. He said his approach speed at the time of the incident was approximately 120 KTS. No further action was taken.
