Narrative:
Following confign approximately 6 mi final, cockpit filled with smoke and fumes. Smell was similar to burning paper/wood. Crew went through smoke/fumes immediate action items. So conducted smoke/fumes and evacuate/evacuation checklists. Gasper left pack secured -- fumes remained, smoke dissipated. No odor aft of cargo door. Aircraft landed runway 5R and exited runway at D5. Engine secured at request of ind crash fire rescue equipment. Chief entered aircraft through forward door. No evacuate/evacuation due to diminished odor and smoke after turnoff. Aircraft towed to parking. Crash fire rescue equipment, maintenance, operator management and FAA safety confirmed fumes in cockpit after boarding aircraft. Tower told company management there were ground fires on final -- not reported on ATIS. Incident aircraft #3 to land, no other aircraft reported problems. No ground fires observed.
