Narrative:

Descending to 3000 ft as given me by ATC, I busted altitude by about 600 ft before I caught the error. I was busy trying to avoid cumulus cloud buildups and trying to spot the airport. I have no altitude alert system installed to warn me when I get distracted for whatever reason. As soon as I noticed the mistake I climbed back to the assigned altitude while being vectored and reported the mistake. I also called the radar facility when I got on the ground to report the bust and the supervisor said that it didn't cause a problem.
