Narrative:
Our flight was given a descent from 10000 ft to 9000 ft on a 260 degree heading. At 8700 ft the descent was noted and immediately returned to 9000 ft. No deviations were reported from the controller, either airborne or by telephone.

Title: CAPT OF A B727 OVERSHOT ASSIGNED ALT ON DSCNT AND RETURNED TO ASSIGNED UPON OBSERVING THE MISTAKE. APCH CTLR DID NOT CALL THE CREW'S ATTN TO THE OVERSIGHT NOR INDICATE A PROB IN SUBSEQUENT TELEPHONE CALL AFTER LNDG.
Narrative: OUR FLT WAS GIVEN A DSCNT FROM 10000 FT TO 9000 FT ON A 260 DEG HDG. AT 8700 FT THE DSCNT WAS NOTED AND IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO 9000 FT. NO DEVS WERE RPTED FROM THE CTLR, EITHER AIRBORNE OR BY TELEPHONE.
