Narrative:
On scheduled flight from sfo to jfk on jul/mon/98, we picked up our pre departure clearance which stated 'sfo 8' SID, matching our filed flight plan. There was no more on our ACARS painted pre departure clearance to contact clearance delivery for revised SID as there occasionally is. We taxied out for takeoff, which I made as the PF. The sfo 8 SID calls for a right turn to 030 degree heading. Before the captain switched radios to departure, tower said to fly the cuit 2 (quiet 2) departure. We both looked at each other and agreed our clearance was the sfo 8. The captain told ATC this, and they said to fly the runway heading and contact departure. Departure seemed confused as well. As near as we could tell, our filed flight plan and pre departure clearance matched, and at no time did ground, tower, or clearance delivery at sfo change our clearance to quiet 2 departure. There was no conflict or problem with other traffic but it was disconcerting to have that kind of confusion with ATC immediately after takeoff. Perhaps some other safeguards in the pre departure clearance clearance delivery system are warranted.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AFTER TKOF AT SFO, THE ACR CREW WAS INSTRUCTED TO FLY A DIFFERENT SID THAN THE ONE RECEIVED ON THE GND.
Narrative: ON SCHEDULED FLT FROM SFO TO JFK ON JUL/MON/98, WE PICKED UP OUR PDC WHICH STATED 'SFO 8' SID, MATCHING OUR FILED FLT PLAN. THERE WAS NO MORE ON OUR ACARS PAINTED PDC TO CONTACT CLRNC DELIVERY FOR REVISED SID AS THERE OCCASIONALLY IS. WE TAXIED OUT FOR TKOF, WHICH I MADE AS THE PF. THE SFO 8 SID CALLS FOR A R TURN TO 030 DEG HDG. BEFORE THE CAPT SWITCHED RADIOS TO DEP, TWR SAID TO FLY THE CUIT 2 (QUIET 2) DEP. WE BOTH LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND AGREED OUR CLRNC WAS THE SFO 8. THE CAPT TOLD ATC THIS, AND THEY SAID TO FLY THE RWY HEADING AND CONTACT DEP. DEP SEEMED CONFUSED AS WELL. AS NEAR AS WE COULD TELL, OUR FILED FLT PLAN AND PDC MATCHED, AND AT NO TIME DID GND, TWR, OR CLRNC DELIVERY AT SFO CHANGE OUR CLRNC TO QUIET 2 DEP. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT OR PROB WITH OTHER TFC BUT IT WAS DISCONCERTING TO HAVE THAT KIND OF CONFUSION WITH ATC IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF. PERHAPS SOME OTHER SAFEGUARDS IN THE PDC CLRNC DELIVERY SYS ARE WARRANTED.
