Aircraft had volumetric top-off problem at ZZZ resulting in a fuel spill. Item should have been addressed by maintenance prior to departure. Crew elected to bring aircraft to xyz and write up problem there. Item was reported to maintenance control prior to departure.

Title: AN MD SUPER 80 WAS DISPATCHED WITH A FUEL SYS PROB NOT ENTERED IN THE LOGBOOK UNTIL TRIP TERMINATION.
Narrative: ACFT HAD VOLUMETRIC TOP-OFF PROB AT ZZZ RESULTING IN A FUEL SPILL. ITEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED BY MAINT PRIOR TO DEP. CREW ELECTED TO BRING ACFT TO XYZ AND WRITE UP PROB THERE. ITEM WAS RPTED TO MAINT CTL PRIOR TO DEP.
