Narrative:
Flight was operating from rdu to atl. Thunderstorms halted operations into atl, so we held at macey intersection on the macey 2 arrival. Several other aircraft were also in holding at macey. After approximately 30 mins of holding, we were vectored for landing. After landing on runway 26R, we were told to exit to the right on 'A4,' turn right on 'a' and hold short of runway 26R at 'C.' after clearing the runway, I started the after landing checklist, and turned down the #1 VHF radio to contact company on VHF #2. As I finished up, we were crossing runway 26R. I turned up VHF #1 and heard tower telling the pilots that he had cleared air carrier XXX to cross and not us. The pilots replied they thought he had cleared them and tower replied no, it was air carrier XXX and to listen up better. Ground and ramp traffic was saturated due to delays caused by the thunderstorms. Everyone was under pressure to keep things moving.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727 CREW CROSSED RWY WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: FLT WAS OPERATING FROM RDU TO ATL. TSTMS HALTED OPS INTO ATL, SO WE HELD AT MACEY INTXN ON THE MACEY 2 ARR. SEVERAL OTHER ACFT WERE ALSO IN HOLDING AT MACEY. AFTER APPROX 30 MINS OF HOLDING, WE WERE VECTORED FOR LNDG. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 26R, WE WERE TOLD TO EXIT TO THE R ON 'A4,' TURN R ON 'A' AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 26R AT 'C.' AFTER CLRING THE RWY, I STARTED THE AFTER LNDG CHKLIST, AND TURNED DOWN THE #1 VHF RADIO TO CONTACT COMPANY ON VHF #2. AS I FINISHED UP, WE WERE XING RWY 26R. I TURNED UP VHF #1 AND HEARD TWR TELLING THE PLTS THAT HE HAD CLRED ACR XXX TO CROSS AND NOT US. THE PLTS REPLIED THEY THOUGHT HE HAD CLRED THEM AND TWR REPLIED NO, IT WAS ACR XXX AND TO LISTEN UP BETTER. GND AND RAMP TFC WAS SATURATED DUE TO DELAYS CAUSED BY THE TSTMS. EVERYONE WAS UNDER PRESSURE TO KEEP THINGS MOVING.
