Narrative:
En route from bna to cvg right engine oil pressure began to fluctuate, but remained above minimum value. Captain notified maintenance control as first officer was the PF. Oil pressure values in right engine was dropping while fluctuating and eventually triggered low oil pressure warning. Engine was shut down in-flight in accordance with established checklist procedures. Flight diverted to sdf. Emergency was declared, approach/landing was uneventful. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that the corrective action is unknown but the engine had been written up 3 times in 3 days including the reporter's flight when the engine was shut down. The reporter said twice the low oil pressure write-ups' corrective action taken were signed off 'unable to duplicate report.' callback conversation with reporter acn 409412 revealed the following information: the reporter stated the cause of the low oil pressure warning and fluctuating pressure was a large engine oil leak but the component that failed on the engine was unknown.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A CANADAIR CL65 IN CRUISE AT FL200 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO #2 ENG FLUCTUATING AND LOW OIL PRESSURE INDICATION.
Narrative: ENRTE FROM BNA TO CVG R ENG OIL PRESSURE BEGAN TO FLUCTUATE, BUT REMAINED ABOVE MINIMUM VALUE. CAPT NOTIFIED MAINT CTL AS FO WAS THE PF. OIL PRESSURE VALUES IN R ENG WAS DROPPING WHILE FLUCTUATING AND EVENTUALLY TRIGGERED LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING. ENG WAS SHUT DOWN INFLT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ESTABLISHED CHKLIST PROCS. FLT DIVERTED TO SDF. EMER WAS DECLARED, APCH/LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THE CORRECTIVE ACTION IS UNKNOWN BUT THE ENG HAD BEEN WRITTEN UP 3 TIMES IN 3 DAYS INCLUDING THE RPTR'S FLT WHEN THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN. THE RPTR SAID TWICE THE LOW OIL PRESSURE WRITE-UPS' CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN WERE SIGNED OFF 'UNABLE TO DUPLICATE RPT.' CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR ACN 409412 REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING AND FLUCTUATING PRESSURE WAS A LARGE ENG OIL LEAK BUT THE COMPONENT THAT FAILED ON THE ENG WAS UNKNOWN.
