Narrative:

On IFR flight plan just after takeoff I had just went to departure. Approximately 1 mi from mkc airport aircraft was not climbing, was losing airspeed. Left engine showed low manifold pressure. In visual conditions. Told the controller I had an engine problem and needed to return to mkc. Turned back to the airport. Controller asked if I wanted vectors for the approach. I said negative, we're in visual conditions. He canceled my IFR flight plan and handed me back to downtown (mkc) tower who gave me a class B clearance and special VFR clearance to land. Landed without incident.
