Narrative:

I was the captain on air carrier flight XXX operating on aug/xx/98. Approximately blockout time XA00 local. Out flight was to operate lax-mem. We were parked in spot ab on the air carrier ramp facing wbound off taxiway A2 (the alleyway). We were tugged out in the alley where we started all 3 engines (facing north). We contacted lax ground for taxi clearance. We were cleared to taxi runway 25L via taxiway a hold short of F1. After I applied power to start the taxi roll and rolled a short distance, ground issued us a new clearance to hold position and give way to an air carrier cargo B747-400 taxiing east on taxiway a. We stopped but responded that we thought we were too far forward for the B747 to clear our cockpit with his wingtip. The air carrier pilot told ground he thought they had sufficient clearance so he told them to proceed. I requested they proceed slowly past our nose. Once they got a little closer it was easy to see that they would clear us by 15 ft or so. I watched their wingtip and gave their crew a thumbs up gesture. Meanwhile lax ground issued us a new clearance to taxi wbound on taxiway a to hold short of runway 25L at taxiway G. I recall hearing this, but it did not register when I was watching his wingtip come toward us. After the B747 passed by, ground said to continue taxiing. I commenced our taxi and began a right turn eastbound on taxiway a. First officer cleared us right and I looked left. My first officer said 'no' left, turn. I had to stop the right turn and turn left, lost all my inertia and had to add power to get the aircraft moving in a hard left turn. I applied approximately normal throttle forward position to get rolling again. I did not look at N1 power gauges as I was looking outside trying to stay on the taxiway. Remainder of flight was uneventful. Upon landing at mem we were to learn of some landing gear damage to a C208, parked adjacent to our taxi out spot. Apparently our jet blast blew the C208 sideways a few inches to move his tire onto the chocks causing some damage to the wheel or gear.

Title: DC10 CREW WAS TOLD THEIR ACFT CAUSED JETBLAST DAMAGE TO ANOTHER ACFT AS THEY DEPARTED THE RAMP AT LAX.

Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT ON ACR FLT XXX OPERATING ON AUG/XX/98. APPROX BLOCKOUT TIME XA00 LCL. OUT FLT WAS TO OPERATE LAX-MEM. WE WERE PARKED IN SPOT AB ON THE ACR RAMP FACING WBOUND OFF TXWY A2 (THE ALLEYWAY). WE WERE TUGGED OUT IN THE ALLEY WHERE WE STARTED ALL 3 ENGS (FACING N). WE CONTACTED LAX GND FOR TAXI CLRNC. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI RWY 25L VIA TXWY A HOLD SHORT OF F1. AFTER I APPLIED PWR TO START THE TAXI ROLL AND ROLLED A SHORT DISTANCE, GND ISSUED US A NEW CLRNC TO HOLD POS AND GIVE WAY TO AN ACR CARGO B747-400 TAXIING E ON TXWY A. WE STOPPED BUT RESPONDED THAT WE THOUGHT WE WERE TOO FAR FORWARD FOR THE B747 TO CLR OUR COCKPIT WITH HIS WINGTIP. THE ACR PLT TOLD GND HE THOUGHT THEY HAD SUFFICIENT CLRNC SO HE TOLD THEM TO PROCEED. I REQUESTED THEY PROCEED SLOWLY PAST OUR NOSE. ONCE THEY GOT A LITTLE CLOSER IT WAS EASY TO SEE THAT THEY WOULD CLR US BY 15 FT OR SO. I WATCHED THEIR WINGTIP AND GAVE THEIR CREW A THUMBS UP GESTURE. MEANWHILE LAX GND ISSUED US A NEW CLRNC TO TAXI WBOUND ON TXWY A TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25L AT TXWY G. I RECALL HEARING THIS, BUT IT DID NOT REGISTER WHEN I WAS WATCHING HIS WINGTIP COME TOWARD US. AFTER THE B747 PASSED BY, GND SAID TO CONTINUE TAXIING. I COMMENCED OUR TAXI AND BEGAN A R TURN EBOUND ON TXWY A. FO CLRED US R AND I LOOKED L. MY FO SAID 'NO' L, TURN. I HAD TO STOP THE R TURN AND TURN L, LOST ALL MY INERTIA AND HAD TO ADD PWR TO GET THE ACFT MOVING IN A HARD L TURN. I APPLIED APPROX NORMAL THROTTLE FORWARD POS TO GET ROLLING AGAIN. I DID NOT LOOK AT N1 PWR GAUGES AS I WAS LOOKING OUTSIDE TRYING TO STAY ON THE TXWY. REMAINDER OF FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. UPON LNDG AT MEM WE WERE TO LEARN OF SOME LNDG GEAR DAMAGE TO A C208, PARKED ADJACENT TO OUR TAXI OUT SPOT. APPARENTLY OUR JET BLAST BLEW THE C208 SIDEWAYS A FEW INCHES TO MOVE HIS TIRE ONTO THE CHOCKS CAUSING SOME DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL OR GEAR.
