Narrative:
Please see attached narrative to company safety department. Contributing factors: aircraft dispatched with multiple MEL items -- unable to ascertain correct altimeter. Problem had successful resolution due to the following: 1) very good flight engineer and first officer. Good crew coordination and prebriefed handling of abnormal sits. 2) ATC provided increased separation. 3) VMC from time of occurrence to landing. IMC would have made this a very difficult situation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B727 HAS AN ALTIMETER PROB FLYING THROUGH ZJX AIRSPACE. ARTCC PROVIDES INCREASED SEPARATION FOR THE ACFT.
Narrative: PLEASE SEE ATTACHED NARRATIVE TO COMPANY SAFETY DEPT. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: ACFT DISPATCHED WITH MULTIPLE MEL ITEMS -- UNABLE TO ASCERTAIN CORRECT ALTIMETER. PROB HAD SUCCESSFUL RESOLUTION DUE TO THE FOLLOWING: 1) VERY GOOD FE AND FO. GOOD CREW COORD AND PREBRIEFED HANDLING OF ABNORMAL SITS. 2) ATC PROVIDED INCREASED SEPARATION. 3) VMC FROM TIME OF OCCURRENCE TO LNDG. IMC WOULD HAVE MADE THIS A VERY DIFFICULT SIT.
