Narrative:
Abq approach cleared us for a visual approach to runway 3 at abq. The controller then talked continuously to a VFR aircraft and failed to switch us to tower. We became busy flying the approach and didn't realize we had not been switched to tower until after landing. Even though we caused no traffic conflicts, both ATC and/or us should have caught the failure to communicate.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737 LNDG AT ABQ, NM, IS SO BUSY LISTENING TO TRACON THAT THE FLC FORGETS TO GET CLRNC TO LAND.
Narrative: ABQ APCH CLRED US FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 3 AT ABQ. THE CTLR THEN TALKED CONTINUOUSLY TO A VFR ACFT AND FAILED TO SWITCH US TO TWR. WE BECAME BUSY FLYING THE APCH AND DIDN'T REALIZE WE HAD NOT BEEN SWITCHED TO TWR UNTIL AFTER LNDG. EVEN THOUGH WE CAUSED NO TFC CONFLICTS, BOTH ATC AND/OR US SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE.
