Narrative:
Fll tower. Before departure I was informed that the temperature was not available for fll -- our departure airport -- and that tower was issuing the temperature at fll executive airport as a substitute. I called dispatch to see if I could get an accurate temperature at fll and he called operations at fll and gave him the temperature that tower was issuing for executive airport. I was not satisfied with this, so I called operations and they said that they could not get an fll temperature. It was past departure time. I told them that I could not go without a temperature at the airport. They then put me on hold and then came back and said that dade county just came out and took the temperature at the airport. Suspiciously it was exactly the same temperature that they were issuing at fll executive airport. We departed with this temperature. Upon investigation, I found out that the temperature monitoring system at fll had been inoperative for the previous week and no one had questioned using the temperature at fll nor had dispatch been informed through NOTAM or otherwise of the problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF S80 IS UNABLE TO RECEIVE CURRENT TEMP AT DEP ARPT. DISPATCH IS NOT ABLE TO GET THE CORRECT TEMP. FLC IS FINALLY GIVEN A TEMP SUPPOSEDLY TAKEN AT ARPT BUT THE SAME AS TEMP FROM NEARBY ARPT BEING ISSUED.
Narrative: FLL TWR. BEFORE DEP I WAS INFORMED THAT THE TEMP WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FLL -- OUR DEP ARPT -- AND THAT TWR WAS ISSUING THE TEMP AT FLL EXECUTIVE ARPT AS A SUBSTITUTE. I CALLED DISPATCH TO SEE IF I COULD GET AN ACCURATE TEMP AT FLL AND HE CALLED OPS AT FLL AND GAVE HIM THE TEMP THAT TWR WAS ISSUING FOR EXECUTIVE ARPT. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS, SO I CALLED OPS AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT GET AN FLL TEMP. IT WAS PAST DEP TIME. I TOLD THEM THAT I COULD NOT GO WITHOUT A TEMP AT THE ARPT. THEY THEN PUT ME ON HOLD AND THEN CAME BACK AND SAID THAT DADE COUNTY JUST CAME OUT AND TOOK THE TEMP AT THE ARPT. SUSPICIOUSLY IT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME TEMP THAT THEY WERE ISSUING AT FLL EXECUTIVE ARPT. WE DEPARTED WITH THIS TEMP. UPON INVESTIGATION, I FOUND OUT THAT THE TEMP MONITORING SYS AT FLL HAD BEEN INOP FOR THE PREVIOUS WK AND NO ONE HAD QUESTIONED USING THE TEMP AT FLL NOR HAD DISPATCH BEEN INFORMED THROUGH NOTAM OR OTHERWISE OF THE PROB.
