Narrative:
A DC10-10 type aircraft loss of left hand wing leading edge inboard device on takeoff. This was looked at on the walkaround, but one cannot see under the leading edge device for condition of attachments. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the slat segment that separated was approximately 3- 4 ft in length and about 12 inches of the leading edge. The reporter said the composite material cracked on the upper and lower surfaces where joined by the attach fittings. The reporter stated a more frequent check of these slats may detect cracking in this area. The reporter said a walkaround check was made by the reporter prior to departure but the slats were retracted and nothing unusual was noted.

Title: A DC10-10 ON TKOF HAD THE L WING INBOARD SLAT SEGMENT SEPARATE FROM THE ACFT CAUSED BY CRACKED COMPOSITE MATERIAL AT THE ATTACH POINTS.
Narrative: A DC10-10 TYPE ACFT LOSS OF L HAND WING LEADING EDGE INBOARD DEVICE ON TKOF. THIS WAS LOOKED AT ON THE WALKAROUND, BUT ONE CANNOT SEE UNDER THE LEADING EDGE DEVICE FOR CONDITION OF ATTACHMENTS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE SLAT SEGMENT THAT SEPARATED WAS APPROX 3- 4 FT IN LENGTH AND ABOUT 12 INCHES OF THE LEADING EDGE. THE RPTR SAID THE COMPOSITE MATERIAL CRACKED ON THE UPPER AND LOWER SURFACES WHERE JOINED BY THE ATTACH FITTINGS. THE RPTR STATED A MORE FREQUENT CHK OF THESE SLATS MAY DETECT CRACKING IN THIS AREA. THE RPTR SAID A WALKAROUND CHK WAS MADE BY THE RPTR PRIOR TO DEP BUT THE SLATS WERE RETRACTED AND NOTHING UNUSUAL WAS NOTED.
