Narrative:
Tower cleared us for takeoff. We did checklist final items. As we approached 80 KTS, someone on frequency said 'tower, air carrier X is taking off.' I had heard radio chatter as we were doing final items, including a go around command from tower to an air carrier B747 on runway 25L. I then saw the B747 over runway 25L and then realized that tower must have made radio call that we didn't hear. As we had plenty of runway left, I deselected rejected takeoff so wouldn't have to worry about hot brakes or needlessly upsetting passenger. We rolled about 4000 ft then turned off runway. Tower never said another word. I requested discrete tower frequency to talk to supervisor and explained we never heard the radio call, and in the future it would help if the controller got an acknowledgement or at least repeated the instructions. He understood we were doing checklist items during those critical 5-7 seconds. Supervisor stated he would address this issue with his people. This is too critical an area of flight not to get positive readback from aircraft concerned.

Title: FLC IN B757 AT LAX WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. FLC DID NOT HEAR THE TWR CANCEL TKOF CLRNC BUT ABORTED WHEN THEY HEARD A XMISSION ON THE RADIO THAT INDICATED THEY SHOULD NOT BE DEPARTING.
Narrative: TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF. WE DID CHKLIST FINAL ITEMS. AS WE APCHED 80 KTS, SOMEONE ON FREQ SAID 'TWR, ACR X IS TAKING OFF.' I HAD HEARD RADIO CHATTER AS WE WERE DOING FINAL ITEMS, INCLUDING A GAR COMMAND FROM TWR TO AN ACR B747 ON RWY 25L. I THEN SAW THE B747 OVER RWY 25L AND THEN REALIZED THAT TWR MUST HAVE MADE RADIO CALL THAT WE DIDN'T HEAR. AS WE HAD PLENTY OF RWY LEFT, I DESELECTED RTO SO WOULDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HOT BRAKES OR NEEDLESSLY UPSETTING PAX. WE ROLLED ABOUT 4000 FT THEN TURNED OFF RWY. TWR NEVER SAID ANOTHER WORD. I REQUESTED DISCRETE TWR FREQ TO TALK TO SUPVR AND EXPLAINED WE NEVER HEARD THE RADIO CALL, AND IN THE FUTURE IT WOULD HELP IF THE CTLR GOT AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR AT LEAST REPEATED THE INSTRUCTIONS. HE UNDERSTOOD WE WERE DOING CHKLIST ITEMS DURING THOSE CRITICAL 5-7 SECONDS. SUPVR STATED HE WOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH HIS PEOPLE. THIS IS TOO CRITICAL AN AREA OF FLT NOT TO GET POSITIVE READBACK FROM ACFT CONCERNED.
