Narrative:
Location: luize intersection on the minks 1 arrival. Last leg of a 4 leg day at XA18. I was the captain PNF on minks 1 arrival. Prior to crossing ard, my flight director faulted. The first officer turned off both flight directors and disengaged the autoplt. Then he turned both flight directors back on and re-engaged the autoplt which cleared the fault. Both of us were distraction by the handoff from ZNY to approach and the controller's assignment of a different approach than the current ATIS called for. We did not re-engage navigation, so the aircraft reverted to heading hold. After passing ard VOR, we failed to make the turn to luize intersection. ATC asked us our heading and what we were doing. He then vectored us back on course. The first officer told me we were 7 mi off course when ATC called it to our attention. A follow up call to new york approach was made and they said that no action was being taken and no separation compromised.
