Narrative:

Level at 7900 ft MSL to remain below class B airspace. Set CDI to den 145 degree radial. Remarked to rsp that, once east of the radial, we could climb to 9500 ft MSL. I was distraction, trying to retrieve a chart that had fallen beneath the seat, when I felt the aircraft climb. Heads up again, I noted we were level at 9500 ft MSL but still approximately 2-3 degrees west of the 145 degree radial and above the class B floor of 9000 ft MSL. The student had misunderstood my statement as a command to climb now.
