Narrative:
I was flying, my first officer was handling communications. We left alb en route slk. As we went north, we had to deviate around thunderstorms en route. At 40 mi south of slk, we requested the VOR DME 5 slk, after which we were given direct slk. As we had approached slk, we were watching severe WX, level 5 thunderstorms southwest of slk. As we flew the DME arc, it looked like we would come along the east side of the thunderstorms. As we turned the final approach it was clear that the severe WX area was directly over the approach course and that we were going to have to abandon the approach. I informed my first officer that we were turning left and to the south. We started the turn and climb, getting into severe turbulence and heavy rain. We exited the area to the south. I used my authority/authorized as PIC in an emergency to deviate away from the WX. We headed south for better WX. As soon as was feasible we contacted ZBW. The center controller asked us why we had not flown the published missed approach procedure. I informed ZBW we could not fly the published miss due to severe WX on the approach, we could not even get to it, and that we had to escape the thunderstorm. The center controller informed us we had another aircraft in the area. There was no indication on our TCASII -- no RA, no conflict. We landed at slk without further incident.

Title: BE02 CREW EXECUTES MISSED APCH AT SLK DUE TO SEVERE WX.
Narrative: I WAS FLYING, MY FO WAS HANDLING COMS. WE LEFT ALB ENRTE SLK. AS WE WENT N, WE HAD TO DEVIATE AROUND TSTMS ENRTE. AT 40 MI S OF SLK, WE REQUESTED THE VOR DME 5 SLK, AFTER WHICH WE WERE GIVEN DIRECT SLK. AS WE HAD APCHED SLK, WE WERE WATCHING SEVERE WX, LEVEL 5 TSTMS SW OF SLK. AS WE FLEW THE DME ARC, IT LOOKED LIKE WE WOULD COME ALONG THE E SIDE OF THE TSTMS. AS WE TURNED THE FINAL APCH IT WAS CLR THAT THE SEVERE WX AREA WAS DIRECTLY OVER THE APCH COURSE AND THAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO ABANDON THE APCH. I INFORMED MY FO THAT WE WERE TURNING L AND TO THE S. WE STARTED THE TURN AND CLB, GETTING INTO SEVERE TURB AND HVY RAIN. WE EXITED THE AREA TO THE S. I USED MY AUTH AS PIC IN AN EMER TO DEVIATE AWAY FROM THE WX. WE HEADED S FOR BETTER WX. AS SOON AS WAS FEASIBLE WE CONTACTED ZBW. THE CTR CTLR ASKED US WHY WE HAD NOT FLOWN THE PUBLISHED MISSED APCH PROC. I INFORMED ZBW WE COULD NOT FLY THE PUBLISHED MISS DUE TO SEVERE WX ON THE APCH, WE COULD NOT EVEN GET TO IT, AND THAT WE HAD TO ESCAPE THE TSTM. THE CTR CTLR INFORMED US WE HAD ANOTHER ACFT IN THE AREA. THERE WAS NO INDICATION ON OUR TCASII -- NO RA, NO CONFLICT. WE LANDED AT SLK WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
