Narrative:

Lost engine power on takeoff (rotation). #2 flight attendant called me to say she felt a strange vibration. I called crew to inform them and they advised me that they were aware of the problem, 'stand by.' they called back to tell us they were shutting down #3 engine and we would be landing in 5 mins. They did not anticipate an evacuate/evacuation. They said after landing they would have fire truck follow us for precautionary procedure only. Cockpit crew handled the situation great! Captain said we did not need to brief the passenger for an emergency landing, but should something happen on landing, the evacuate/evacuation signal would be 'easy victor.' it turned out that something broke loose in the #3 engine causing it to do damage to the engine. I remember on takeoff roll the runway was very bumpy -- almost like there were holes in it!
