Narrative:
Departure gave us a vector and climb. Once established, controller told us to stop climb and turn left. Pointed out traffic off our right. Controller acknowledged via telephone after flight arrived pit that they had made a mistake on giving us the clearance. Fast action by controller recognizing the potential problem and our quick response to his conflict resolution prevented a problem. Good communication procedures were followed and all readbacks were acknowledged with call signs.
