Narrative:
I was cleared to takeoff on runway 14 at sgf. Runway 2/20 was closed except for acrs. On my takeoff roll, I noticed air carrier Y, a DC9, taxiing on taxiway north which crosses runway 14. Evidently the ground controller did not instruct the jet to stop and hold short of runway 14 because as I neared rotation speed, the DC9 taxied on across runway 14. Fortunately, I was able to rotate and lift off but I would judge that as I passed over the DC9 (which was in the middle of taxiing across runway 14) I was only 100 ft above the airliner. There was never any loss of control issue with my plane and I climbed on out on our IFR flight. I queried departure control about being too close to the jet but he said it wasn't a problem. I feel that what occurred could have resulted in a major accident, and I think the problem would be with a ground controller allowing the jet to taxi across an active runway with a plane (mine!) taking off.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: WHILE RPTR WAS TAKING OFF ON RWY 14 AT SGF ARPT, A DC9 TAXIED ACROSS THE TXWY AT THE FAR END.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO TKOF ON RWY 14 AT SGF. RWY 2/20 WAS CLOSED EXCEPT FOR ACRS. ON MY TKOF ROLL, I NOTICED ACR Y, A DC9, TAXIING ON TXWY N WHICH CROSSES RWY 14. EVIDENTLY THE GND CTLR DID NOT INSTRUCT THE JET TO STOP AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 14 BECAUSE AS I NEARED ROTATION SPD, THE DC9 TAXIED ON ACROSS RWY 14. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO ROTATE AND LIFT OFF BUT I WOULD JUDGE THAT AS I PASSED OVER THE DC9 (WHICH WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TAXIING ACROSS RWY 14) I WAS ONLY 100 FT ABOVE THE AIRLINER. THERE WAS NEVER ANY LOSS OF CTL ISSUE WITH MY PLANE AND I CLBED ON OUT ON OUR IFR FLT. I QUERIED DEP CTL ABOUT BEING TOO CLOSE TO THE JET BUT HE SAID IT WASN'T A PROB. I FEEL THAT WHAT OCCURRED COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT, AND I THINK THE PROB WOULD BE WITH A GND CTLR ALLOWING THE JET TO TAXI ACROSS AN ACTIVE RWY WITH A PLANE (MINE!) TAKING OFF.
