Narrative:
Cargo smoke indication at FL330. Performed cargo smoke memory items and declared emergency with ZDC. We advised them we were diverting to rdu which was 60 NM southeast. Performed the rest of the checklist items and prepared for passenger evacuate/evacuation. Ground emergency units notified, performed evacuate/evacuation checklist and evacuate/evacuationed passenger out the main door. No injuries. 40 passenger and 3 crew members. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that maintenance reported the problem was caused by a smoke detector failure.

Title: A CANADAIR CL65 IN CRUISE AT FL330 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO A CARGO COMPARTMENT SMOKE WARNING CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE SMOKE DETECTOR.
Narrative: CARGO SMOKE INDICATION AT FL330. PERFORMED CARGO SMOKE MEMORY ITEMS AND DECLARED EMER WITH ZDC. WE ADVISED THEM WE WERE DIVERTING TO RDU WHICH WAS 60 NM SE.
