Narrative:
Cargo smoke indicator while we were in position and hold on runway 23L. Complied with memory items/QRH, and declared an emergency. We asked the flight attendant if the were any signs of smoke or fire in the cabin. The flight attendant's response was 'no.' we advised her to stand by and be ready for a possible evacuate/evacuation. We asked the crash fire rescue equipment crew to inspect the aft cargo compartment for any signs of smoke or fire. They did not find any signs of smoke or fire. The crash fire rescue equipment crew escorted us as we uneventfully taxied the aircraft to the gate and deplaned it.
