Narrative:
Normal takeoff. After gear retraction, cockpit indications were: red 'doors' light on forward panel and amber 'nose gear door' light on so panel. This was accompanied by a loud airflow noise from the nosewheel well area and excessive vibration due to nosewheel rotation. Referred to 'landing gear retraction malfunction' procedure. Extended landing gear and cockpit indications were: 3 down/locked green lights and red 'doors' light on forward panel and amber 'nose gear door' light on so panel. Requested a return to yyc and emergency equipment. Requested and flew low pass for tower inspection of nose gear area. Had an uneventful landing and stopped on runway for inspection by crash fire rescue equipment crew. All steering and braking system were normal so we taxied to the gate.
