Narrative:
In reference to aircraft xyz on the night of aug/xa/98, elevator and tab inspection/modification of the ctring unit. The night of aug/xa/98 was a heavy workload night. I worked with another mechanic on 2 aircraft, xyz and zyy. Because of the heavy workload, the inspection/modification workload was to be deferred. Possibly that next morning when clearing work in the computer, I may have inadvertently signed off this inspection. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft was a B737-500 and the inspection was deferred as it still had several hours left for it to be accomplished. The reporter said when entering all the completed job cards in the maintenance computer the item was cleared. The reporter said a follow-up meter and call was made to maintenance control to reopen the item for the next overnight layover.
