Narrative:
Location: dfw 330 degree radial, 30 DME. After departure from dtw, aircraft experienced failure of second cabin pressure controller. Aircraft was dispatched with pressure controller #1 inoperative. Aircraft was cleared to 17000 ft. While passing approximately 11000 ft, second controller failed, and PF initiated descent to 9000 ft without clearance. ATC was immediately informed of aircraft problem and descent plans. Emergency was not declared. Aircraft entered holding pattern for approximately 10 mins to sort out problems and initiated uneventful return to dfw. There appeared to be no conflict on the TCASII or from the air traffic controller.

Title: AN MD11 DEPARTING DFW LOSES CTL OF PRESSURIZATION AND DSNDS AT PLT'S DISCRETION TO 9000 FT FROM 11000 FT. NO EMER WAS DECLARED.
Narrative: LOCATION: DFW 330 DEG RADIAL, 30 DME. AFTER DEP FROM DTW, ACFT EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF SECOND CABIN PRESSURE CTLR. ACFT WAS DISPATCHED WITH PRESSURE CTLR #1 INOP. ACFT WAS CLRED TO 17000 FT. WHILE PASSING APPROX 11000 FT, SECOND CTLR FAILED, AND PF INITIATED DSCNT TO 9000 FT WITHOUT CLRNC. ATC WAS IMMEDIATELY INFORMED OF ACFT PROB AND DSCNT PLANS. EMER WAS NOT DECLARED. ACFT ENTERED HOLDING PATTERN FOR APPROX 10 MINS TO SORT OUT PROBS AND INITIATED UNEVENTFUL RETURN TO DFW. THERE APPEARED TO BE NO CONFLICT ON THE TCASII OR FROM THE AIR TFC CTLR.
