Narrative:
I was in the back galley cleaning up after the service when I heard bells dinging and noticed the seatbelt sign was flashing on and off. I called the cockpit and was told they were busy. I went to the front to see what the problem was. The #1 flight attendant came out of the cockpit and I noticed the panel lights were flashing. She informed us that there was a problem with the generator in the left engine. I went to the back, passenger were unaware of any problems. I got my manual out and reviewed planned emergency procedures, just in case. The cockpit announced a problem and said we were going to land in phx due to a generator problem. The landing was uneventful. Maintenance looked at it and took the plane out of service. We were told that the generator had gotten so hot that it welded itself to the engine and that we were real close to having an engine fire. The passenger were sent on another air carrier to lgb. Crew deadheaded back to dfw to pick up the rest of the trip sequence.
