Narrative:
This flight departed without the logbook. I do not recall responding to the checklist item but that in no way excuses my lapse. A contributing factor is the failure of ZZZ maintenance to leave the logbook on the jet when they are completed with their duties. It is not uncommon for me to call them prior to departure in order to get the book on board. Time to examine my predep priorities.
