Narrative:
A monitored approach was being flown into iah on oct/xa/98. It was early morning, with reported 300 ft overcast, 1 mi visibility. The first officer was flying on autoplt and I was monitoring. At about 3 mi out an aircraft was cleared onto runway 26 for departure and was cleared for takeoff prior to our reaching 2 mi. We were cleared to land and at 300-200 ft I took control of the aircraft to land. As we touched down, the first officer keyed the microphone, shouting an expletive and that we were going around and then began yelling 'go around, go around, there's an aircraft on the runway.' I looked down the runway at the tail of a DC9 that did appear to still be on takeoff roll. We touched but immediately rotated to go airborne again. When we were airborne, I displaced to the north of runway 26 to keep the rotating/climbing DC9 in sight as long as possible, which was only a few hundred ft. An uneventful ILS landing was made on runway 26. I do feel like the probationary first officer overreacted, but to maintain crew integrity I feel that we did what was needed at the time. The other aircraft was probably 6000 ft or farther down the runway.

Title: FO OF A B737-500 CALLED OUT GAR TO CAPT AFTER HE HAD JUST TOUCHED DOWN DUE TO SIGHTING A DC9 STILL ON THE TKOF ROLL AHEAD DOWN THE RWY. THE CAPT TOOK OFF AND WENT AROUND KEEPING OFF THE SIDE OF THE RWY IN ORDER TO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE OTHER ACFT'S FLT PATH.
Narrative: A MONITORED APCH WAS BEING FLOWN INTO IAH ON OCT/XA/98. IT WAS EARLY MORNING, WITH RPTED 300 FT OVCST, 1 MI VISIBILITY. THE FO WAS FLYING ON AUTOPLT AND I WAS MONITORING. AT ABOUT 3 MI OUT AN ACFT WAS CLRED ONTO RWY 26 FOR DEP AND WAS CLRED FOR TKOF PRIOR TO OUR REACHING 2 MI. WE WERE CLRED TO LAND AND AT 300-200 FT I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT TO LAND. AS WE TOUCHED DOWN, THE FO KEYED THE MIKE, SHOUTING AN EXPLETIVE AND THAT WE WERE GOING AROUND AND THEN BEGAN YELLING 'GO AROUND, GO AROUND, THERE'S AN ACFT ON THE RWY.' I LOOKED DOWN THE RWY AT THE TAIL OF A DC9 THAT DID APPEAR TO STILL BE ON TKOF ROLL. WE TOUCHED BUT IMMEDIATELY ROTATED TO GO AIRBORNE AGAIN. WHEN WE WERE AIRBORNE, I DISPLACED TO THE N OF RWY 26 TO KEEP THE ROTATING/CLBING DC9 IN SIGHT AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, WHICH WAS ONLY A FEW HUNDRED FT. AN UNEVENTFUL ILS LNDG WAS MADE ON RWY 26. I DO FEEL LIKE THE PROBATIONARY FO OVERREACTED, BUT TO MAINTAIN CREW INTEGRITY I FEEL THAT WE DID WHAT WAS NEEDED AT THE TIME. THE OTHER ACFT WAS PROBABLY 6000 FT OR FARTHER DOWN THE RWY.
