Narrative:
While executing missed approach at L32 (oceanside airport), canceled IFR flight plan due to problems with instruments, turn and bank, artificial horizon, compass, on climb to 3000 ft. However, did not confirm altitude as my student and I were trying to determine what was wrong. Flew a heading to take us off the coast and then toward nzy, our destination. We then descended to 1200 ft MSL to avoid flying through the class B airspace for san while proceeding to NAS north island (nzy) for landing.
