Narrative:
On nov/xa/98 at XA30 we were told to level off at FL280 by ZOA. 1 min later we received clearance to FL350. I asked center to confirm this, they said 'climb and maintain FL350.' 30 seconds later we were told 'maintain level at FL280.' no further action was taken.

Narrative: ON NOV/XA/98 AT XA30 WE WERE TOLD TO LEVEL OFF AT FL280 BY ZOA. 1 MIN LATER WE RECEIVED CLRNC TO FL350. I ASKED CTR TO CONFIRM THIS, THEY SAID 'CLB AND MAINTAIN FL350.' 30 SECONDS LATER WE WERE TOLD 'MAINTAIN LEVEL AT FL280.' NO FURTHER ACTION WAS TAKEN.
