Narrative:
On descent into atl on the sinca 3 arrival, we received clearance to cross canuk at 12000 ft and 250 KTS. Copilot was using FMS for navigation. At 13 NM from canuk (FMS) the aircraft was 250 KTS and descending through 13000 ft at 1500 FPM. Controller asked if we would make restr. As I was answering affirmative the FMS data shifted to 3 NM 'to' canuk then 'from' canuk in a 5-10 second time frame. We reached 12000 ft 3 NM past canuk. I have never observed a data shift on the L1011 in 2 yrs of flying it. To prevent situation in future, one pilot could go to manual VOR for the entire descent.

Title: FLC OF A LOCKHEED 1011 TRI-STAR FAILED TO MAKE XING RESTR DURING A STAR ARR DUE TO A DATA SHIFT BY THE FMS.
Narrative: ON DSCNT INTO ATL ON THE SINCA 3 ARR, WE RECEIVED CLRNC TO CROSS CANUK AT 12000 FT AND 250 KTS. COPLT WAS USING FMS FOR NAV. AT 13 NM FROM CANUK (FMS) THE ACFT WAS 250 KTS AND DSNDING THROUGH 13000 FT AT 1500 FPM. CTLR ASKED IF WE WOULD MAKE RESTR. TO PREVENT SIT IN FUTURE, ONE PLT COULD GO TO MANUAL VOR FOR THE ENTIRE DSCNT.
