Narrative:
Sitting in forward jump seat I heard a loud noise followed by rattling sounds about 3-5 mins after takeoff. Right after that, I felt the aircraft level off. After approximately 1 min, I peeked into the cockpit where the jump seat rider informed me we lost an engine, will be returning. All the flight attendants were then advised of a planned emergency landing. We went up to step 9 on our list, then took our seats. A smooth landing followed, aircraft was checked out before taxiing to the gate, and passenger deplaned hungry. Supplemental information from acn 420519: captain dumped fuel, landed in mia. All passenger remained calm and cooperated with flight crew.
