Narrative:
We had copied the XX51Z ATIS information for lindbergh field, which stated the localizer runway 27 approach was in use. The first officer briefed as this was his leg. There was no mention on ATIS information of the DME OTS. When we were handed off to socal approach (and eventually cleared for the approach), we reported we had ATIS information. We were not advised the ATIS was updated or that the DME was OTS. We began our dscnts based on the DME we were receiving, which resulted in being lower at reebo FAF and setting off the low altitude alert. We corrected and made an uneventful landing at XA39Z.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN ACR MD80 CHKED ATIS IN A TIMELY SEQUENCE PRIOR TO APCH AND LNDG AND FOUND THEMSELVES LOWER THAN CALLED FOR AT THE FAF DUE TO THE DME FOR A LOC APCH BEING OTS. THE UPDATED ATIS COVERED THIS OUTAGE, WHICH THEY DID NOT HAVE, NOR DID APCH CTLR BRIEF THEM REGARDING THIS OUTAGE WHEN CLRING THEM FOR THE LOC APCH.
