Narrative:
On descent (rapid) missed thumbwheel on autoplt while in a turn. Expected leveloff but airplane continued descent which was caught by 400 ft. Returned to altitude assigned. Problem caused by poor autoplt capabilities and oversight by PF during busy phase of flight. Need to keep scan going during altitude changes. ATC asked about altitude deviation which had been corrected by that time.
