Narrative:
Location: vicinity of ALS VOR. In level cruise at FL310, about 1 hour after takeoff with seatbelt sign off, flight attendant #1 opened cockpit door with question. Unable to understand, I motioned her to enter, only to look back and see a small boy standing before me and the cockpit door closed. Her question must have been 'could we show the cockpit?' I politely asked his name and if he was well and then asked him to return to the cabin and send up the flight attendant. I counseled the flight attendant regarding the far prohibiting visits in-flight. She explained she was unfamiliar with the rule. I am convinced she now knows and understands the rules.
